OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK #70 Bryan Redmond, Bowie State (Sr, OL - Upper Marlboro, MD)
Redmond played a huge part in #19 Bowie State's 41-10 home victory against the Chowan Hawks. The Bulldogs rolled up 591 yards of total offense.

QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK #6 Amir Hall, Bowie State (Jr, QB - Bowie, MD)
Hall continued to blister opposing defenses, throwing for over 300 yards for the fifth time this season, torching Chowan for 346 passing yards and three touchdowns. in only three quarters of play. He completed 26-of-35 passes with no interceptions and also rushed for one touchdown in Bowie State's 41-10 home win.

RECEIVER OF THE WEEK #17 Brandon Britton, Bowie State (Jr, WR - Columbia, MD)
Britton hauled in a game-high 12 receptions for a game-high 175 yards and two touchdowns. Britton's 12 receptions tied a Bowie State Single Game Record.

OFFENSIVE BACK OF THE WEEK #26 Kerrion Moore, Winston-Salem State (R-Jr, RB - Gastonia, NC)
Moore continued to be the workhorse for the Rams' offense this season with a great game against Johnson C. Smith. He rushed 23 times for 137 yards and three touchdowns. The highlight of the day was a 48-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for the Rams. He also had four receptions for 33 yards as well.

LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK #6 James Hickman, St. Augustine's (Jr, LB - Antioch, CA)


DEFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK #41 Chasz Cosby, St. Augustine's (Sr, DE - Charlotte, NC)
Cosby finished with a game-high 13 tackles including two tackles for loss in a 30-29 win over Livingstone.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK #88 Jefferson Souza, Virginia Union (Fr, K - Deerfield Beach, FL)
Souza went six-for-six in extra points and added a field goal for a total of nine points in VUU's 45-23 win over Lincoln (Pa.). Souza also had six kickoffs for 373 yards, including two touchbacks. He also had an average of 55 yards per punt on two punts, including a season-long 68-yard punt, tying him for the eighth-longest punt in VUU history. He also made a tackle.


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK #4 Richard Latimer, Fayetteville State (Fr, QB - CHarlotte, NC)
Latimer had the best game of his rookie career with 222 passing yards on 19 of 28 attempts. Although he threw one INT, two (2) of his passes went for touchdowns.

COACH OF THE WEEK

Head Coach Chavous guided the Falcons to a 30-29 win over Livingstone with a backup quarterback. The Falcons are 1-0 in the Southern Division and 2-1 in the CIAA.

MEAC WEEK 6 FOOTBALL HONORS   Ryan McGinty
NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina A&T State quarterback Lamar Raynard was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. South Carolina State’s Darius Leonard was named the Defensive Player of the Week while North Carolina A&T State’s Brandon Parker received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Norfolk State quarterback Juwan Carter was tabbed Rookie of the Week while North Carolina Central specialist Aedan Johnson is the Specialist of the Week.
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LAMAR RAYNARD  NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE  QB  6-4, 200, R-Jr. HIGH POINT, N.C.
Raynard finished 20-for-26 and passed for three touchdowns in North Carolina A&T State’s homecoming win over Delaware State on Saturday. The redshirt junior also had a 219.7 pass efficiency rating and a 61-yard scoring strike. This was Raynard’s second 300-yard passing game of the season, making him the first Aggie quarterback in school history to have two 300-yard passing games in the same season. Five of his 17 touchdown passes have gone for 50 yards or more.
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DARIUS LEONARD SOUTH CAROLINA STATE  LB  6-3, 235, R-SR.  LAKE VIEW, S.C.
Leonard finished with 18 tackles (14 solo) this past Friday in SC State’s win over Morgan State. In addition to his tackle count, Leonard also finished with two interceptions for 51 yards with one of them returned for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. Leonard also logged a tackle for loss, pass breakup and quarterback hurry.
 
OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

BRANDON PARKER  NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE  OL 6-7, 309, R-SR. KANNAPOLIS, N.C.
Parker had another solid weekend as he blocked for an offensive unit which went over the 400-yard mark for the sixth time this season. He did not allow a sack or any quarterback hurries versus Delaware State.

 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

JUWAN CARTER  NORFOLK STATE  QB 6-0, 170, FR. RICHMOND, VA.

Carter completed 17-of-32 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns to help Norfolk State top Florida A&M and improve to 2-0 in the MEAC. The freshman from Richmond, Va. came up big in the second half as he erased a seven-point deficit with a 45-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. With the game tied at 28-all late in the fourth quarter, Carter’s 17-yard run set up the game-winning touchdown as he finished his final drive 3-for-4. He also completed a key two-point conversion to begin the fourth quarter which gave NSU a seven-point lead.
 
SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK


AEDAN JOHNSON  NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL  PK 5-8, 160, JR. CHULA VISTA, CALIF.

Johnson came up big for the Eagles as he scored a MEAC-best seven points in North Carolina Central’s 13-7 win at Howard. Johnson connected on two big field goals in the second quarter to keep NCCU within distance and a PAT in the third quarter.

 
 

CIAA Cross Country Runners and Coaches of the Week #6

Women's Runner of the Week
 Zakyrah Haynie, Winston-Salem State University (Fr. - Washington, DC) Zakyrah continued a great freshman season when she placed ninth at the Cedric Walker HBCU Challenge with a 19:56.5 in the women's 5K run. She led all CIAA runners at the meet.

Men's Runner of the Week: Tyreece Huff,
Virginia State University (So. -Washington, DC) Tyreece Huff, was the top CIAA men's finisher last weekend during the HBCU Great American Cross Country challenge meet in Cary, NC with a time of 27:16.7

Women's Coach of the Week
Inez Turner, Fayetteville State University
FSU finished 3rd overall behind Hampton and NC A&T at the HBCU Challenge in Cary, NC. The Broncos defeated CIAA opponents Winston-Salem State, St. Augustine's, Livingstone, Bowie State, Virginia Union, Virginia State, Lincoln (Pa.) Shaw, and Chowan.

Men's Coach of the Week

Coach Johnson lead the VSU men's cross country team to a 4th overall finish, which was the top CIAA men's cross country team during the 2017 HBCU Great American Cross Country Challenge last weekend in Cary, NC.

Player of the Week
#13 Mariah Russell, Lincoln (PA)  (Sr, OH - St. Louis, MO)

Russell recorded a career-high nine aces in the Lions 3-1 win over Bowie State. Her nine aces are the most in a single match this season by any CIAA player and the third highest total in NCAA Division II for a four-set match. In addition, Russell had 12 kills and eight digs, becoming the first Lions player to record 500 career kills

Rookie of the Week  #7 Kayla Gates, Chowan (Fr, OH - Chesapeak, VA)

The freshman helped the Hawks to a 3-1 record during the week. Recorded her first double-double of her career in the loss to FSU.

Coach of the Week
Reeshemah Johnson, Fayetteville State

Coach Johnson and the FSU Broncos are currently on a seven (7) match win-streak after defeating Chowan last Sunday 3-1 and sweeping St. Augustine's (Oct. 5th) and Claflin (Oct. 6th).
